Happy Saturday!

I’ve mentioned many times before, I think it is so important when you have multiple dogs, to give each of them some one-on-one time. You can take this time to practice obedience skills, get exercise, enjoy the weather, or just cuddle on the couch! Today, though the day started off cold and rainy, it quickly turned into absolute gorgeous weather! So, I decided to take Oscar out for a walk to enjoy the day. He and Lucy are very bonded, and often react to things based off of the other’s reaction, whether it’s dogs nearby, joggers, bikers, etc. It’s important to me that the dogs know how to be independent. It is good for them to have outings on their own, to be confident in their independence. It also strengthens my bond with them, when we have time to be together. I also practice obedience with Oscar throughout our walks, including “sit”, “heal”, “look at me”, “come”, etc.

I enjoy a cold winter day, just as much as I enjoy a hot summer beach day…but if I could live in a place where the weather is 95% of the time exactly like it was today, 60 degrees sun shining with white fluffy clouds in the sky, I would move there in a heartbeat!

Tomorrow will be Lucy’s day to have some one-on-one time, hopefully the weather will be just as lovely! Until next time, have a wonderful day my friends!

  1. Loved this post! Today is Ace’s day – we hop into the car and drive to the training club where we are getting ready for the rally novice trial on March 2…he gets to socialize with other dogs and to meet and kiss their humans. He gets treats and hugs and a good chunk of one on one time. It will be Allie’s day on Monday. We head to the same club but we are in a class called “Games”, which is a lot of fun. We use her obedience skills to play fun games with the other 5 dogs and their humans. Last but not least, Wednesday morning is Noah’s day with me at the club. We are taking a class called, “Motivating the Canine Athlete”. Noah doesn’t need too much motivation – he’s off and running once I open the club door, but we are learning some important skills for when we start rally. Each day with each dog is very special, both for them and for me. I get to give them the one on one love we all need.

  2. One on one time is so important! I try to make sure each of my dogs get at least a solo walk or training session every day, but each of them has their own special things they get to do throughout the week – Bauer loves other dogs and has his playgroup at the local park twice a week that he goes to without any of our other dogs, Snoopy loves to go in the car and gets to go get takeout with me or run short errands, and Jeni and I go hiking or running in the park. Each also have their own training classes and get to go to different trials and shows. I admit I spend more one on one time with Jeni than the other dogs but Snoopy is more my husband’s dog so he gets extra time with him and Bauer honestly prefers staying at home for the most part! When adding fosters into the mix it gets interesting but I think I do a pretty good job of making sure they are all individually getting attention, though they love each other as well.

    1. Yes! Oscar gets to go to doggie daycare once a week, and Lucy goes in errands a lot with me too. Sounds like you do a wonderful job of giving them that special time! šŸ™‚

  3. You are an amazing, smart, and thoughtful foster mom:-) It is hard to give one on one time to a dog when you have multiple dogs, but we need to do our best. Excellent post. Yes, practice obedience when walking.
