Does your dog do this?
and this?
I came across an article on The Dog Daily, about dogs & their sleeping positions, and I thought it was really interesting. The first point they make is that dogs lay with their bellies up in order to quickly cool off. But the most interesting part, to me, was that this is a submissive position. If they lay next to you, belly up, this is the pup’s way of showing that he fully trusts you. Meaning he isn’t afraid of being attacked by a predator. He feels safe in his surroundings to get completely relaxed and comfy!

Another article said “Of course, there’s a lot to be said for the role of socialization as well. Dogs who engage in this behavior tend to be secure, well-socialized individuals who enjoy safe, stable, comfortable surroundings.”

Have a great week everyone!!
This is Cir’s favorite position to sleep in! I agree – I think it is them displaying their trust! I love looking upside down at their faces when they sleep on their back haha!
Boomer and Dottie sleep like this all the time… it’s strange to see the places they choose to do it though since it’s not always on a bed or couch, sometimes it’s up against a wall or in the middle of a room… strange…
Great post! Herman was known to sleep like that.
If you walk into my family room in the evening, when we are all watching tv after dinner, you will see 3 upside down dogs in various spots in the room. Allie goes to her favorite chair, Ace and the puppy can be found on the couch between us. I’m happy to hear they trust us and feel safe. We trust them too – and they make us feel happy!
