Happy 4th of July!

Today is the day for bbq’ing and fireworks! But did you know, today is also the most common day for dogs to be reported as lost?

Your dog may not have a fear of thunderstorms or loud sounds, but can still have a negative reaction to the sounds of fireworks. It can be a very scary day for your pets, so please remember to keep them safe!

Here are my tips for helping keep your pups calm today:

1-Get them out of the house early, and exercise them. Help them get out any nervous energy, so they’ll be worn out tonight when the festivities begin.

2-Use their thundershirt, if you have one.

3-Give them some rescue remedy just before you leave the house. It is an all natural calming medication, that helps relieve nerves and anxiety.

4-Leave a light on, and the tv on, to help distract them from the noises.

5-If you are taking your dog out with you, be sure they have a no slip collar on (like the martingale collar). Even the most confident, relaxed dog, can be spooked & take off running!

6-Make sure your dog’s tags are up to date, and attached to his/her collar, at all times.

7-Take a current picture, in case your dog does get lost and you need to share it.

Also, keep in mind, many foods that you will be enjoying today, are not safe for dogs!

My pups will all be relaxing at home for the day. I’m hoping to get them all out for exercise sometime this morning, if this rain ever stops! I sure do miss the sun! Anyway, have a fantastic 4th of July everyone! Be safe, and have fun!
