Holidays like Memorial Day come and go with us celebrating with BBQ’s and fireworks. We get together with friends and family, have fun, eat…the good stuff! But, do we take the time to think about what the holiday is really all about?
Memorial Day is a day to honor those that have lost their lives in active military service.
I have a dear friend who lost the love of her life in this current war. To see the pain she has gone through, yet the strength she shows every day, constantly amazes me. Though she misses him every day, she is moving on, and living her life. But she continues to honor her husband, by telling his story, and supporting his fellow military brothers. Although I am there for her, and I check in on her from time to time, I never feel like it’s enough. They truly had that once-in-a-lifetime love. They were so in love, always enjoying every minute they got to be together, traveling the world as his military career demanded. To hear her tell the story of when she got the news of his death, is heart wrenching to say the least. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about it. I just wish I could take that pain away for her. And I hate that there are so many other people in our country, feeling the same pain.
In honor of my friend, her husband, and all of those that have died while protecting our country, I ask that you take a minute this weekend to remember what the holiday is really all about. Say a prayer for the families that have lost loved ones in the war, past and current. And say “thank you” when you see a veteran!
My beautiful friend, and her beloved husband, Sgt. John Brown
Thank you to all those who have served, or are currently serving, our country! And thank you to the friends and family members that support our country’s heroes!
Happy Memorial Day! Have a great weekend, and be safe!
