Sometimes the kiddo and I like to talk about what we would do if we won the lottery. My #1 top answer: Buy a house on the beach. Jayden’s #1 top answer: Buy a bounce house. Then my 7 year old, all-knowing, smart ass, philosophical child usually chimes in with “Maybe you should go buy a ticket this time, Mom.”
Now, I am one to be happy with what I have. I try not to be jealous of others. I don’t wish that I had someone else’s gigantic mansion of a house. I don’t want the same fancy car as another person might have. But do I want more for myself and my family? Sure. I mean, let’s be honest, I’m not living in my dream home! So anyway, this brings me to the many, many, M-A-N-Y dogs that are in need of homes. If I had a house (not a townhouse), with a huge backyard, and lots of money to spare, I would definitely have more than my two dogs. I wouldn’t turn into a crazy hoarding dog lady, don’t worry! But there are definitely some faces that I just wouldn’t be able to say no to.
Take this guy, for example, who looks like my two dogs combined into one mini-version!!!

Or this guy….

And maybe these boys too…..

I definitely wouldn’t say no to this mug!

I’d HAVE to take this guy, because he reminds me of my Basti

Yup, I’d most definitely take this one home too…

There are plenty that I can pass by, without them pulling at my heartstrings. That’s not to say that I don’t wish they had forever homes, because of course I do. I don’t want to see or hear about ANY animal being tortured, starved, or put to sleep just because there’s no space for them. But some of these dogs, for whatever reason, I just know I would take home, if only I had the means. So, maybe I can’t take them all home. Instead, I will continue to help the rescue raise money. I will continue to share the dogs’ stories and faces, asking people to share and consider adopting. I will keep on fostering, opening my home to the dumped and ditched and discarded dogs. All in hopes that one day, they too will find a forever home, like my pups have found.
So, what would you do with a winning lottery ticket?
*The dogs in this post are available through Last Hope Rescue (unless otherwise stated). Let me know if you are interested in meeting one of them!
Very true 🙂 I’d do the same if I had a house with a backyard.
I think I’d buy 100 acres and put a bunkhouse on it for students who love dogs. In exchange for free room and board, they could take care of tons and tons of rescued dogs. Like a giant, free doggie daycare for pound puppies. And a commune, all rolled into one.
Guess I better take Jayden’s advice and buy a ticket! 😉
I don’t know…if I won the lottery, I might just buy a bouncy house, too! I for sure would purchase a large amount of property–hopefully with fields, woods and streams contained within it’s borders. I wouldn’t necessarily want a fancy house or anything…I tend to like the simpler things. But, I probably would use a large chunk of the winnings to start my own non-profit rescue for critters and a non-profit to help underprivileged children learn more about the natural world and just get to be kids. If only…but one can dream, right? I can still do little things to help critters and children without being ridiculously rich and the smiles and tail wags received in return are really more priceless than any money, anyway, right? But it is fun to day dream!
You my dear have excellent taste in dogs! We are definitely drawn to the same types of pups. And if I won the lottery, well, I’d do a loooong list of things lol!
